The Royal Inca Trail to Machu Picchu “The Famous Inca Trail” still existed and was rediscovered by Hiram Bingham when he realized his clearing work between 1913 and 1915. The Inca trail was a route of pilgrimage to Machu Picchu used by the Inca (or Emperor/King) in the 15th century. There are different sites between Ollantaytambo Inca City and Machu Picchu Inca City where one can note the variety in architectural resources that give rationality, importance and mysticism to the Royal Road.
Llactapata means City on top, it was a small Inca city and now one of the very popular Inca archaeological sites along the Inca Trail.

Runkuraqhay is an archaeological construction that is believed to be an administrative point
left by the Incas, in addition, it is presumed that in Runkuraqhay important religious
ceremonies were held because of the presence of niches.
Runkuraqhay has a semicircular shape with a structure of slate stone and gray granite.
Wiñayhuayna means 'always young' and is considered a sacred place along the Inca Trail before reaching Machu Picchu.
This site was built by the Inca Pachacutec, using the same type of architecture that was used
in the archaeological complex of Machu Picchu.
Intipunku is also called 'Puerta del Sol' (Sun Gate) and leads to Machu Picchu. This is a great point of view from where you will get your first view of Machu Picchu. It was used by the Incas during their ceremonies for the summer solstice in December.
