City Tour in Cusco

Cusco or Qosqo in quechua was the capital of the inca empire called Tawantinsuyo. The “navel of the world” is also considered as the archeological capital of south america and a cultural legacy of Humanity. With no doubt, Cusco is the most important  tourist destination in Peru because of  Machu Picchu. The streets of the city are over flowing with our country´s history. One can observe the different stages of the evolution from ancient times until the Conquest and its consequences. Cusco is also the cradle of Machu Picchu, a secret and magic citadel until recently; one of the seven new Wonders of the world showing the more refined work of inca genius. At last Cusco, in addition to the numerous archeological sites to visit, is one of the most auspicious places to do amazing treks, discover superb landscapes by mountain bike, do some rafting and much more…

Itinerary:

In the afternoon, we will pick you up from your hotel  proceeding to visit the Imperial City. It is a living example of the mix of andean and spanish culture. We start the tour by the Cathedral located in the main square. Then we continue by visiting the Santo Domingo Convent built over the Koricancha that was the ancient Inca Palace and the main worship center of the Sun God. You will have time to enjoy these beautiful sights. After we continue by visiting the archaeological site of Sacsayhuaman with its impressive inca architecture which dominates the city. Finally we visit the archaeological sites of Q´enqoPucapucara and Tambomachay, located in the north east of the city before returning to your hotel in Cusco in early evening.

The Cathedral

The Cathedral was built between 1560 and 1664 out of large slabs of red granite taken from the Inca construction of Sacsayhuaman. It houses important collections of gold and silver work of the colonial period, elaborately engravedwooden altars and a beautiful collection of oil on canvas paintings from the Escuela Cusqueña.

Koricancha and the Convent of Santo Domingo

(It was the Main Temple of the Incas) where Sun God is worshiped, About the engineering used in the construction of this place, its walls were covered with gold and in its mean terraces there were sheets of animals in gold made in natural size, which also kept over there mains of the Incas and their wives who in ever ruled these lands which were embalmed, chronicles indicate that these seemed to be alive.

Sacsayhuaman

(Head of the great Puma)

The city of Cusco was in the form of a Puma and the exactly Head was Saqsayhuaman. It is 3 km from the city of Cusco. The Temple has impressive monumental and magnificent stone architecture, also known as "la Casa del Sol" Annually on 24 June is here where is performed the ancestral ritual of Inti Raymi.

Q’enqo

(Temple of the Pachamama or Mother Earth) was a ceremonial temple, there is an amphitheatre where sacrifices were made on a black flame, that every winter solstice "June 21" in the shadow a planned for well-polished bricks, born a natural phenomenon "The Awakening of the Puma" for the Incas was the beginning of the great festival of Inti Raymi

Pukapukara

Tambomachay

(royal baths) at 7 km. from the city of Cusco is a ceremonial place of worship for the water, its wings are named sources of water that exist on the site. Also is believed to be resting place of the Inka.
